Oceanfront, spacious, well equipped!
We stayed at Kona Nalu for 5 nights in early November. Our time there was wonderful and- apart from the election result- we thoroughly enjoyed our stay . The apartment is located directly on the oceanfront. There is no beach in front as such but lots of volcanic rock and rock pools. We encountered a sea turtle in one on our first day which was a bit of a highlight. The stone church next door has a lovely grassed area to sit and enjoy the sunset. There are beaches within a reasonable walking distance (15-20 mins) and the 'centre' of kona (with big shops and restaurants etc) is only a 10 minute drive. We enjoyed being a little bit away from the 'main drag' but did end up driving to do most things. One place within easy walking distance is 'Da Poke Shack' which has at times been rated as the best restaurant on the Big Island. Go for lunch as they are usually sold out by early afternoon. We found the location to be a good starting point to see the West and South coast of the Big Island and managed to head to the Volcanoes National Park and back in one day with ease. The apartment itself is well appointed and HUGE. Lots of kitchen equipment for those wanting to self cater. The metal fittings and sliding doors etc show signs exposure to the salty air but I imagine it would be quite difficult to avoid this sort of thing being so close to the ocean. Wifi was excellent. Would highly recommend and would return!
