Cute Getaway Bungalow in Amazing Location!
Firstly, Rachel (the owner) was very responsive, helpful and keeps a very clean little bungalow. Location, location, location! Quaint, funky and close quarters, this bungalow is definitely perfect for a couple seeking to explore Santa Monica and the beach. It's a 3-minute car ride to the 3 Street Promenade (chock-full of trendy stores, upscale and casual restaurants and amusing buskers and people watching), nice, clean beaches and all sorts of other hip neighborhoods around just about every corner. This is truly a couple of "back rooms" connected to the master house, and with the windows open you can hear neighbors close by and occasionally the owners on the other side. Regardless, it felt cozy and safe. No air conditioning, but a ceiling fan. The kitchen is moderately functional - heat up leftovers from a restaurant - absolutely. Cook a full menu? Not easy. But there are dishes, a fridge, microwave, sink and very small counter space. The claw-footed shower tub was fun, and the bathroom is large and very clean (the bathroom has two doors and sits between the bedroom and the kitchenette, BTW). Rachel provides towels, shampoo, body wash and soap to ensure you don't need to bring those items (except a beach towel, if you are going to go). The queen size bed was very comfy and clean; there is a walk-in closet of sorts that was great to place luggage and organize yourself. There is not a lot of "living space" - so if your vacation time includes reading, cocktails with friends or otherwise lounging, you might consider a hotel. The large backyard would certainly suffice during the temperate months for such activities. The biggest "disappointment" was no TV. Not that you want to spend your time in Santa Monica mesmerized by TV, but after a long beach day and dinner out, it's nice to relax in bed and catch a show or what not. Not a deal breaker, but just be aware. Great price, esp. for the town and location. She has bikes you can rent ($10 each per day), and you can easily get downtown or to the beach for adventures. If you are going to Santa Monica to get out and about and basically use the bungalow for a retreat at night, this is a super place, a great price and an attentive owner. I would return here for sure on my next trip!
