Awesome father / son bonding 5 day/4 night weekend
Staying at Ed & Becky's cabin that has been in their family for generations has been a very enjoyable vacation. I spent 5 days & 4 nights over a long Columbus day weekend with my son & his friend mining, hiking, rock hounding, and flying through the trees on zip-lines. We arrived to a cabin that was clean and comfortable with the fire pit just waiting for only a match to enjoy a nice fire. At 56 I got the bed upstairs & let me tell you "It was very comfortable" The boy's (30+) each got 1 of the 2 pull out couches with no complaints other than my snoring. The cabin worked perfect for our long weekend, real close to the town of Boone and all it has to offer. We hiked up their creek behind the cabin for quite a ways well past the small but but picturesque waterfalls (you must take your camera) for pictures & a bit of Rock hounding, we were not disappointed. Also some beautiful stones just off the main road, 1 of which turned out, after getting it cut at "Doc"s Rock & Gem Mine" to be 9.55 ct Citrene, hopefully soon to become a necklace for my wife. If you are not too nervous of heights "Skyvalley Zip tours was awesome zipping through the trees, walking the swing bridge over the river, & cliff jumping was an experience I won"t soon forget especially during the leaf change. If you are into sleuth mining, we are & did it more than once with quite a few gems including a 4 ct ruby (after cutting) go to "Docs Rock & Gem Mine" some of the nicest and honest people in the business that I met . To sum it up, this is a great place to stay, hosted by a very nice family, at a reasonable rate to enjoy what Boone has to offer.
