Three days not enough!
Our family of four spent three nights at this property in July 2015. We were admittedly a bit nervous because there were no reviews posted. Property owner Anne did explain that the house had a long-term renter until this spring. Overall, know that you've made a good choice by agreeing to rent this house. The view (well, what we could see of it; it rained all three days of our stay!) is beautiful and the property is expansive. Be sure to take some time to explore the woods and rail lines in the back. It would help to have more detailed instructions on how to reach the trails. We had directions from the kindly gentleman cutting the grass, but still had trouble finding our way and ended up doing some bushwhacking. We did have a breathtaking encounter with a doe and fawn along the way, though, so it was probably worth the adventure. There are lots of geocaches on the trail if anyone plays this game (www.geocaching.com). There are three spacious bedrooms upstairs (to sleep six) and a fourth bedroom in the basement. Our youngest teen chose to sleep downstairs -- a great fit for him, but it is a basement so probably not an ideal choice for adults. Anne is adding a washroom downstairs, which will be a welcome addition. The beds were reasonably comfortable. The kitchen was probably our only disappointment. The supply of glassware was very limited and there were no plastic cups for use in the bathrooms or on the deck. Renters might also benefit from more plastic containers to store leftovers, as well as basic kitchen supplies like plastic wrap and tinfoil. My husband (who is our cook!) also struggled to find the right pots, pans and tools like spatulas to cook some of our meals. We could really have used a lid for the lobster pot and some pantry basics like salt and pepper (it didn't even occur to us to buy these.) We definitely made due, but these few additions would really have amped up our stay from Good to Excellent. The bikes and kayaks are a wonderful addition. Know that two of the bikes are for kids under 10. We did struggle to find the kayaks and almost "borrowed" another property owner's from next to the boathouse across the road. Sadly, there was no seafood for sale in Mahone Bay -- what a shame! Advice on where to buy would have been helpful. Overall we had a nice time in Mahone Bay and would have liked to have stayed longer!
