Hostel near Waipi'o
This hostel is located in a lush and rugged part of Hawaii near a small town. The rooms are very simple, in a walk-out lower level of an old plantation-style house in a quiet neighborhood. There is a comfortable common area with seating and food storage. The rustic propane-fueled cooking area is outdoors, but showers and bathroom are indoors, with a good hot water supply. The bed was comfortable. The yard has fruit trees and a chicken coop (fresh eggs) and we really enjoyed picking various fruits and eating them with our breakfasts. Neighbors down the street had fruit stands with more varieties. The owners are friendly and busy with their young family. If you are happy with a do it yourself, non-fancy style then this will suit you well. The Waipi'o Valley is breathtakingly beautiful. The nearby town has all you need for groceries and restaurants. There is a new restaurant on a hill within a short walk, as well as a little gallery that had some deli items.
