Quaint, quirky, quiet, delightfully wonderful bungalow!
A+ We're new to California and have been taking long weekends periodically to explore the state. Sweet Lorraine is a wonderful cottage in a very quiet section of the Mojave desert. The property is gated and has plenty of natural desert terrain for meandering walks. This is one of the best VRBO places I've ever stayed at, mainly because of its delightful quirkiness in decor and the owner's attention to detail. It was also SPOTLESSLY clean. Even with my ‘germophobia’, I’ve never felt more at ease in a VRBO home before. There's a record player and lots of LPs to choose from. A President Taft-sized free-standing bathtub in the middle of a beautiful walnut-paneled bathroom. A freezer stocked with a couple pints of Ben and Jerry's. A fireplace that comfortably heated the entire great room, which encompasses the living room, dining room, and kitchen. A fireplace, I might add, that was easily stocked with firewood found in three big piles of logs on the front porch. (There was an axe for splitting the logs too.) High-speed internet that was actually high-speed. A high-quality, large LCD TV. The home is filled with a lifetime’s collection of unique, often humorous art. It feels like the sort of place where Edward Abbey might have written one of his great novels. My only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer. We were here from Feb. 4-6, 2017, and the home was incredibly inviting and cozy in the dark, cold, starlit, silent desert nights. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended!
