Cool house, great week
We had a great stay at the Surf Lodge. It is a cool and unique house in a really convenient location. Recently renovated, the house has lots of fun touches, with a refined beach bum vibe (wooden surfboards, album covers, and neat photography line the house). We had some hesitation about staying so close to the bridge to LBI, but it worked out really well. Jon, the owner, was awesome, checking in frequently and pointing us to the best the area had to offer (including private surf lessons with Dave, a local instructor, that were not only excellent but also cheaper than any of the shops on the island). We were within walking distance of surf shops, pizza joints, ice cream, burgers, and most importantly the beach. The fenced in backyard was full of vegetables we could pick at our pleasure and was well manicured to make the breezy nights spent outside more enjoyable. We had 7 in the house (4 adults and 3 small kids). We all had our own space and plenty of room to escape and relax (there is a rooftop deck and a deck off the master that were awesome, although they both had little furniture on them - not a major issue). The house does not have central air, but there is a window unit in the living room and two of the bedrooms. The master, the only bedroom without a/c, has tons of breeze coming through at night and we slept very comfortably with the French doors and windows open (there was a netting around the bed to keep what few bugs there were away. Overall, this was an excellent home to rent and the owner was more than accommodating. We'd be more than happy to stay here again.
