Funky location in the lava fields. Perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle
Yep, you're in Hawaiian Hippy country at the Lava House. This house is "off the grid." You have wifi, power and plumbing but no TV, no microwave oven, no dishwasher and not really accessible laundry facilities. You just need to know that going in. My teenage kids, husband and I loved our stay at the Lava House. Master bedroom was great. Spa bedroom was great. 3rd bedroom had a futon for a bed so it would be nicer if that was a real bed. You have views of the erupting volcano cone....a really cool red glow at night. As there are no lights in the area the stars are outstanding on a clear night. You really get to experience nature and see the beauty rise from the volcanic destruction. You also see the lava line from the mountaintop down to the ocean and a perpetual cloud of steam rising where the lava hits the ocean. It's a 10 mile round trip walk from the house to the area where you can see the lava. Ocean views and sounds come from the other side of the house. I love the wood work throughout the house. The doors are framed out in live edge monkey pod wood. (I think it's monkey pod) It's about an hour drive from Hilo and the Volcano's National Park. It's about 15 minutes to the nearest town. If you need constant entertainment then this is not the house for you. If you want to chill it's perfect. To get there you follow the sign that say: End of the Road. Yep.
