WOW - A truly unique downtown experience on a boat with all the amenities and perfect hosts
I frequently travel to San Diego on business and needed lodging for a few nights but the hotels were very expensive and full with Comic Con attendees. I decided to check VRBO and found a pleasant surprise - lodging on a boat in downtown! I have never stayed overnight on a boat but found Larry's listing of a 40-ft boat with a newly remodeled interior intriguing. I was not disappointed! Quite the opposite in fact; the boat was very clean and spacious (~300 sq ft) with all the amenities needed - comfy bed, cable TV, radio, fridge, coffee maker, snacks, wet bar, water, free parking, marina showers and a great view of downtown! The marina has clean showers, an exercise facility and a snack bar. Before booking, I had several questions and Larry responded almost immediately. I met Larry at the marina and he walked me through the facilities and all the features on the boat. You can tell Larry and his wife Teresa put a lot of attention and hard work into their boat. I enjoyed the evenings on the back of the boat listening to my music on my iphone through the boat stereo winding down from a long day. I would climb up to the captain's chair and enjoy the view of the downtown lights. This was so much better than sitting in a hotel room. Oh, and by the way, the water is very calm and you don't need to worry about getting sea sick. I enjoyed a morning walk around the marina and used Uber to go downtown for dinner (although there are nice restaurants within a short walk from the marina). Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, Larry offered to tour the harbor on his boat prior to my departure. We viewed the cityscape and all the unique areas of the San Diego harbor (USS Midway, Star of India, bait shop with lots of sea lions, dolphin training area, etc). I would strongly recommend this 40 ft Viking to anyone staying on business or for pleasure. The boat is ideal for 2 people wanting a little adventure near downtown. I will be staying here again and I want to personally thank Larry for his hospitality, time and for sharing his boat with me. Do yourself a favor and try something truly different. You too will have wonderful stories to share with your family and friends.
