Baren Older House
Upsides: This is a good-sized, older home with attractive dark wood ceiling & beams; living-room has dark wood floor. There is:an all-wood dining area with small wood table & chairs, large closets, washer-dryer (no soap). The TV is about 30” but the volume control did not work. Lots of potential. Lam is enthusiastic, friendly and very willing to bring over from her home shortfalls in what we might need. Downsides: Neighborhood is so-so. When you arrive you are asked to park in the garage and are only given the keys to the back door. You are not given the keys to the front door. Entering through the back gate in the dark is challenging. We could not find a way to turn on a porch light in the back. Furniture: was minimal for this large house. The large living room contained 1 worn couch, 1 end table, 1 TV on a stand and 1 small lamp we put into a bedroom. There was nothing was on any of the walls. One bedroom contained a bed, a hide-a-bed and one small night stand. There was no place to put clothes besides the closet. The second bedroom contained two twin beds and two small dorm desks with metal folding chairs. Nothing was on the walls of either bedroom. The décor consisted of a few plastic flowers stuck in the mini-blinds and a plastic palm tree. Bathroom paintwork was sloppy: much of the natural wood trim had paint streaks and much needed a second coat. There were no easy chairs, no coffee table, 2 small, inexpensive table lights, no standing lights, no chest of drawers, only 3 lights working (out of 5 small lights) in dining area; no area rug for the large all-wood living-room floor. 2 towels; 0 bath mat; 0 extra blankets, just bed covers. Back yard: 2-3’ high weeds everywhere in the large back yard. There was one picnic table, but no bench or chairs of any kind to sit on. Kitchen: One 1-cup coffee maker (three 1-cup coffee bags) for 2 people for 4 nights - and tea. No condiments, no spices, no non-stick cooking spray. Modest set of dishes (not enough for 6 which the house should hold) very few pots & pans. Toaster is old & well-used, current-sized bread must be forced in. Cutting board was extremely well used & looks unhealthy, no sink strainer. No napkins. Fridge & stove are OK. The pan rack above the stove was greasy, sticky and there was dust and black hairs stuck to the grease. For a similar price and stay we've stayed in clean, charming, and fully-stocked homes. We expected far better.
