Good Eastlake location, but improvements needed
Location-wise it was great for us, but I know the city and what was around (no info is provided to guests on neighborhood, etc). The unit is a good size. Well-maintained building. Freeway noise not an issue w/ closed windows. We stayed during hot temps so the A/C wall unit, once it had some time to run, was key. It's not overly cluttered, which is a plus when renting someone's home. However, some improvements could make this a better stay/earn a higher rating: 1) Owner uses Pillow vs. dealing w/ renters directly. If I can avoid any Pillow managed property in the future I will. Could never resolve any Qs w/ 1 email, had to send several, which were rarely answered to satisfaction. NO flexibility on check in time which makes the whole thing feel non-customer focused/personal. They don't allow check in before 3pm, w/o exception, and you have to check out early - 11am. Even the check out text they sent came across as rude: "Oh, and put the key back in the lock box!" Pillow experience alone caused a star to be deducted. 2) The place was DUSTY. The master bedroom had dust all over the headboard + side tables. Pillow claims they can't do early check ins because they are cleaning the units. Yeah, right. The window sill in the master bedroom was filthy w/ dirt that must blow in from the window. If they had just wiped down the surfaces they could have prevented this bad impression. There were used tissues behind the headboard (gross), and a used towel was hanging in the master bathroom. The side table lamps didn't work, and there was food under the cushions of the couch in the living room. 3) Only 1 set of keys provided. You have to have a key for the elevator and front door. If anyone wanted to leave the unit, someone had to be there to let them into the building. If everyone isn't on the same schedule this is a problem. When renting a 2 bedroom unit, have at least two sets of keys. 4) Both the HomeAway site and Pillow site listed "on premise" parking. But street parking only. Rented this unit as it had parking*. They updated listing after I asked Pillow about parking (3 emails to get a clear answer day before arrival). *Asking for a fair partial refund of cost due to this. 5) Towels were terrible. Super thin, cheap, and left lint all over you. 6) Washer/dryer listed as amenity, but no soap provided -why list it as an amenity? We wanted to wash the linty towels. 7) 2nd bedroom isn't a true bedroom; it's a nook w/o a door but does have a real queen bed.
