When we arrived at this unit, we were greeted by the worst moldy smell I've ever experienced. It permeated the entire place. The floor was slick with some type of unknown substance. I noticed some dirt on the bathroom floor, so I decided to clean it up with Clorox Wipes that I brought. To my horror, the wipes were black with dirt from cleaning a small section, so I continued to clean more. This led me to start cleaning all the floors in the unit with Clorox wipes, and every used wipe was black with dirt. The unit had never been mopped for months, apparently. Whole sections of the carpets in the bedrooms were dirty with brown foot-traffic marks. ALL of the vent registers were black with mold, so I took it upon myself to clean those with Tilex that I bought from Walmart. The shower curtain in the Master bath had mildew stains. The kitchen backsplash was dirty with food stains, which I cleaned. There was a spatula with dried up food on it, the cutlery trays in the drawers had dirt and crumbs beneath the silverware. Two of the baking trays were in the worst condition I've ever seen, with black burn stains, food and oil debris. There was sand on the two directors chairs and on the bed spread on the Master bed, which was two twin beds pushed together. The linens that were provided so pilly and rough that I bought a new set from Walmart. Under the sink in the guest bath had a horrible black crumbly, unknown substance. I went to the office twice with my complaints. The first time was for the mold smell, which they changed the air filter and put an air freshening strip on it, but anyone with some sense knows that that will not solve the mold problem, it just masks it. They provided an air "ionizer" that we kept on full blast for the duration of our stay. We also bought Glade Plug-Ins and Febreeze fresheners to make the smell bearable. The management was unapologetic to my complaints and denied my request for a measly $100 discount or credit for my inconvenience. They claimed it was a "housekeeping" issue. I was very polite and gentle with my complaints, perhaps I should've screamed and used profanities and refused to leave until they gave me a discount. I was very disappointed with the whole ordeal, especially since this was my ONE vacation of the year. And by the way, all of my clothes that were hanging in the closet now smell of mold. This unit has the potential to be very nice, but unfortunately it has been neglected by someone.
