Perfect Location and Accommodation
Our stay in Highlands for our daughter's wedding was perfect for many reasons, but one of the highlights was staying at the end of Old Orchard Road. The accommodations exceeded our expectation, particularly the porch for early morning coffee and the deck for breakfast and evening revelry while enjoying the specular view. We caught the end of the lightning bug season, and it was magical. Veronica filled the hummingbird feeders and watered the flowers each morning, and by the time we left we had hummingbirds visiting us pretty much constantly. Gerry provided everything we needed. Beds were comfortable. (Everyone slept like rocks with the the cool nights!) Places to sit were plentiful. Grill made great steaks. Bryson's grocery was a five minute drive and has an excellent selection of foodstuffs, beer and wine. A lovely Mexican restaurant has great ambience and shares the same shopping area. Highlands was less than 10 minutes from Old Orchard Road, and is a cute little town. They even have a used bookstore with an unbelievable selection of books for very little $$. The town is geared to weddings so hairdressers, nail curists and caterers are available. We flew into Atlanta, and Old Orchard Road is exactly 2 1/2 hours from the airport outside of rush hour traffic if you drive it straight through. We stopped at a farmer's market in Georgia on the way to Highlands and picked up jellies, peaches and a watermelon. We drove to Ashville, and we wished we had spent time exploring closer-in areas, enjoying the town of Highlands or just plain relaxing rather than driving the hour plus to Ashville, which we found disappointing. We would definitely recommend the property for large gatherings like our group, although Veronica and I enjoyed the property the two evenings we had it to ourselves. Thank you, Gerry, for opening your home to us and helping us to make a memory we will never forget.
