We slept to the sound of waves crashing right outside our unit in a mid-century bungelow.
The property is 4 four-plexes to the side of an 8-storey condo tower set behind and to the side of the bungalows, so not in sightline. The advantage to being part of a larger property is the on-site manager, who was helpful, and frequently seen grounds and security crew. . There is a common grassy lawn with tropical plantings, palm and plumeria trees, picnic tables and lawn chairs. The pool is also mid-century-a small rectangle right in front of condo tower, not inviting. What is inviting is the beach a few yards in front, for walking, watching for turtles, snorkeling, kayaking, etc... There is a mix of permanent residents, part-time residents and other vacationers. This side of the island is quieter, more casual. There is a nearby resort and tourist activities, also beaches. It was Winter, and a couple of fronts came through, kicking up the water, making it not as clear for snorkeling, sometimes challenging for swimming, but great for watching experienced surfers. Lots of food trucks, shrimp shacks and plate lunch spots. We cooked in the small but for the most part adequate kitchen. No tongs, one of the challenges for BBQ-ing, the other being one gas grill for all those units. Not many others seemed to be grilling. The unit was clean and the bed comfortable. We were on the top of two floors, could not hear our neighbors, (maybe because of the waves!). There were a couple of futon couches, which would make for wall-to-wall sleeping for a family. This unit was perfect for two people. The bathroom could use updating. The toilet would sometimes "run" so we would shut its' valve after several tries to make it stop. The shower has great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The vanity had room for us to spread out toiletries around the sink. A lot of the décor and the table and chairs seemed "thriftstore", but were "Hawaiiana kitschy". The washer and dryer are downstairs, shared with the other three units of our building. On the second floor, there is no balcony or porch (the first floor units have outdoor space). We had great cross breezes and fans for ventilation, but there was no place to hang beachwear and towels except the bathroom, which had no window, so our stuff was all over our little studio. The beach chairs were rusty, but were replaced but the manager with new ones. There was no beach umbrella. We requested a cooler for taking to the beach, and were also provided with that. We would stay here again.
