Great location, terrific rental
I really enjoyed my time here. Glenn and Katherine have worked hard to make sure this spacious two-bed is perfect for their guests and it has everything you need for a short (or indeed much longer) stay, including the best equipped kitchen I have ever experienced in a rental. Nice touches like ground coffee provided, condiments and spices in the larder, and a plate of cookies made it a very welcoming environment. The rental is on the owners' property which means they are on hand in case anything needs sorting out, and they are two of the nicest, most charming people you could hope to engage with - there if you need them but respectful of your privacy otherwise. My deposit was returned promptly too. The location is a few miles outside Eureka, in a leafy suburb, but ideally placed for Redwood forests north and south. I recommend Humboldt Redwoods, Prairie Creek, and Del Norte State Parks, and of course Redwood National Park for hiking trails. I also enjoyed Arcata Marsh for walking and bird watching, Trinidad for the charming atmosphere, and the Avenue of the Giants for an awe-inspiring drive (some great short hikes off the Avenue too). For dining, I enjoyed meals at the Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka, Kome (sushi) in Fortuna, and Lost Coast Cafe in Ferndale. Portions are enormous (and delicious) at Living the Dream Ice Cream! There are a few good supermarkets within a few miles including a cooperative and a natural foods store, both with great selection of organic and healthy foods. All in all I had a great week and would happily stay here again.
