Relaxing birdwatchers paradise
Check in was easy. Captain Iris and her helper were fast with responses and any concerns. We are a family of 4 and a big dog. This is a beautiful part of the world. We had everything we needed. The neighbors all along this beautiful strip of land snuggled between marsh in the back of the property and the Chesapeake in front of the house were so incredibly nice. It's a very dog friendly place with neighborhood dogs often joining us on walks. I'm sure our dog felt like he was on vacation too! Great front porch for eating breakfast on and a lovely backyard perfect for picnics and BBQ in the evening. Stunning water views on both sides of the house. Gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Bliss! Our teens also really enjoyed the trip. Yes they were able to stay connected on their electronics so no protests but honestly they enjoyed nature and the house so much that they were only on their phones occassionally in the evening. No cable TV and we were glad for that. There's plenty of movies at the house to watch and we had great family time watching a movie every night. The master bedroom is beautiful and comfortable with plenty of pillows and a skylight over the bed to stargaze all night. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous with tons of flowers. We went crabbing off the bridge up the road, kayaking right behind the house where the owner has stored 2 kayaks and biking. You are far from stores so bring what you need for food. There's a great egg farm on your way there with the most delicious eggs. There's a great restaurant open Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the marina just a 10 minute or less drive. Really good food. It's a great location as a homebase to drive from to get to Janes Park, Chincoteague, St Michaels and Tangier Island and other sites. The only thing that wasn't great was the lighting situation on the second floor. I often used my cellphone flashlight to see up there at night. The lamp and air conditioner are connected to the light switch in the bedroom just as you enter the room so if you turn off the light you are also turning off the air. If you turn lamp off independently then you have to walk into a dark room to search for the lamp. That's where our flashlight came in handy. Still I'd come back again and again. The sights, sunsets and birds, relaxation and friendly town far and away outweigh the slight inconvenience in light upstairs. Thank you Captain Iris for sharing this wonderful part of the world with us. Your home is beautiful and special.
