Great place for a girls' weekend!
My family grew up visiting the area and when planning a return for a girls' weekend to celebrate my sister's 50th birthday, I found the Wilkie's gem of a home. The home is lovely; cozy, and comfy. It felt like you were walking into a cabin your grandfather had built in the 1930s. Lots of warm wood and antiques, nothing fancy, but utterly welcoming. Martha makes sure that your stay is relaxing. All linens are provided, the kitchen, though small, is well equipped and stocked with the basics. The bedrooms are rustically charming, the beds are comfortable. There is an upstairs multipurpose space that's quirky but at the same time really functional. The view of the river is amazing, and enjoying great company and a glass of wine by the massive stone fireplace was wonderful on a chilly November weekend (firewood provided). Speaking of chilly weather, we noticed the evening we arrived that the heat stopped kicking on, after checking the switches, oil tank and breakers, I texted Martha. She had the plumber out there in no time and in very short order, he replaced a faulty thermostat and the heat was back on. Martha could not have been more responsive. There are lots of great little towns to explore in the area. We got some holiday shopping done in New Preston and enjoyed a great meal in Kent. We look forward to visiting again!
