A true gem!!!
Staying at Ao Lele was amazing! Sounds like we had a similar experience to Danielle B. (below). This listing didn’t have any reviews when I was looking at it so I felt a bit nervous about booking, but took a leap of faith and am so happy I did! Turns out this is one of the best places we have ever stayed (of 20+ VRBOs worldwide)!!! The property is truly wonderful, and a lot of it has to do with the owner, Mike, and how he treats his guests. The booking procedure was easy and straightforward. Mike was quick to respond to emails and answered all my questions. And I asked a lot! After our stay, security deposit was returned promptly. On arriving, we were struck by the property’s wonderful location --- close to the main highway (1 mile) yet private in the lush rain forest. Mike was waiting for us and spent a considerable amount of time outlining things about the cabin and sharing his knowledge of the area. He has a passion for this beautiful cabin and it shows in the care he gives in maintaining it as a guest property. We were overly impressed with the little details provided --- fresh native flowers in many rooms, chocolate to greet you, filtered water, local tea and fresh ground KONA coffee, brochures and trail guides for the nearby Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (and lots of other travel reading material), a binder with local restaurant menus, solar and nightlights to guide you, headlamps and binoculars for night trips to see the lava (a must do!), excellent WiFi reception, the list goes on and on. We were surprised by all the wholesome foods supplied for breakfast and we didn’t need to shop during the 2 nt stay. It was relaxing to sit on the balcony overlooking the rain forest and enjoy the sights and sounds. The cabin was perfect for 2 of us and felt like a special retreat, from the loft bedroom with a night sky and forest view to soaking in the 100 yr old claw-foot tub (also used as a shower). Mike went above and beyond as a host. One night the power went out and he came over to check on us. We were still out volcano-watching but he left us a big flashlight, lit a couple of lanterns and left some battery-operated candles glowing so we wouldn’t come back to a dark cabin. How thoughtful! Lots to do in the area (if you want to), and a peaceful place to relax at the end of the day. If that’s what you want for your vacation, then this is the place for you! Would DEFINITELY stay here again and HIGHLY recommend!!! Mahalo Mike!
