Very private, convenient location.
We enjoyed our stay because of the private setting and great location near Linville Gorge and Falls. It is also near the Wilson Creek Wild and Senic River and other destinations for hiking. The house has most everything you need for cooking and is fairly close to town for supplies, with Boone around 30 minutes away but there is store closer in Newland. The driveway might be an issue if you don't have 4 wheel drive, I'm glad we rented a jeep. The house is a passive solar design so it can get a little toasty during the day, but if you open up the house in the late afternoon it cools down nicely. The upstairs bedroom isn't very private and can get warm since it is open to the rest of the house because of the open cathedral design. There are ceiling fans and an oscillating fan for moving the air around upstairs for sleeping. If you need privacy choose the downstairs bedroom, it is also a little cooler for sleeping. Follow the owners instructions for closing up the house during the day while you're out exploring and opening it up in the evening to cool the place down. Owner said air conditioning will be added in the future. The track lighting in the downstairs living room needs dimmers, that or secondary lighting in the living room would help, but at times it felt like you were being interrogated by the police...not that I've ever had that experience. There is a collection of three futon couches and one very uncomfortable sofa for sitting in the living room. There is a nice south facing deck with a picnic table but no additional seating for lounging outside. The house is newer and well maintained.
