After driving from Port Aux Basques in one day, Breakwater Cottage in Petty Harbour was the perfect place to land. Though we'd never been here before, it felt familiar, like home. Geoff was there to greet us and make us feel welcome. This lovely cottage is very well appointed and thought out, and everything that you may possibly need is provided and easy to find. Petty Harbour is fascinating, and we had wonderful short day trips to Cape Spear, St. John's, Ferryland, Tors Cove, and Brigus South. At the end of these days we always looked forward to getting back to Breakwater, and its views of the harbour. Among the nearby villages, Tors Cove is special: Running the Goat Press is located there - it has an excellent selection of books written by Newfoundland writers, gifts and prints, and a peek at a working letterpress print shop. Some of the iconic Newfoundland saltbox houses are on the waterfront: the red and white Cribbies house and the Red House. Our only complaint about Breakwater Cottage is that it is so hard to leave! We would recommend it to anybody. Many thanks Geoff and Elizabeth for providing such an excellent accommodation.
