My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary here. It was the most relaxing three days/nights we have had since our honeymoon. The view of the mountains is exactly what you see from the living room. The hosts are incredibly friendly and hospitable. My wife and I formed an instant bond with them and, although they were always great about letting us have our privacy, we felt as if we were staying with friends rather than strangers. It is about a 15-20 minute, beautiful drive, to the heart of downtown highlands. On the way to highlands, you pass a half dozen trails and overlooks (obviously no shortage of nature). For those days you want to stay in, wi-fi and cable television (with every channel you want, including HBO) are readily available. We spent our actual anniversary fifteen feet from our front door, drinking wine, and eating goods from the highlands market, on a blanket that overlooked miles of mountains. Simply incredible. Tips: 1) If you have a truck/suv or higher sitting vehicle, use it. If you have a sedan/car (as we did), it is not a deal breaker at all (we will be returning and most likely drive the same sedan) 2) Buy or bring some groceries to cook with- kitchen has everything you would need (pots, pans, glasses (wine, regular, cocktail), ice, coffee maker, toaster, oven, microwave, knives....literally everything) 3) Make dinner and spa reservations well in advance (especially spa- fills up super fast) 4) No need to bring towels, pillows, or blankets- they got you covered 5) This trip is super easy from Atlanta, takes a couple hours with no headaches 6) They have a King Bed (super comfy)
