Top of the line
I don't know which is better: the people or the place. Because both are terrific. Just a friendly, comfortable and idyllic spot, beautifully located close to the wineries of the El Dorado region and the charming town of Placerville. Any place that leaves fresh eggs from their chickens in the refrigerator, not to mention juice, coffee, and delicious croissants, really can't be all bad. We so enjoyed sitting out on the deck gazing at the woods and fields of the neighboring property, in hopes that their goats would show up, kids bounding after and between the adults. This is located next to, in fact attached to, the house where Chase and Kember live with their 6-year-old and infant sons. Apart from an occasional six year old squeal of delight, it was all perfectly quiet and comfortable. And you couldn't ask for nicer hosts. Tip: try the Independent restaurant in town for good food and great cocktails. But most nights we just cooked 'at home' since everything was well equipped and convenient. Our goal was wine tasting, and the region does not disappoint. We hit many of the major sub-regions of the Sierra Foothills AVA, all an easy drive from this place: El Dorado, Fair Play, Amador, and Calaveras. Be sure not to skip the closest winery of all: Nello Olivo, located in a B&B off of Rte. 49. We liked the El Dorado region the best but it's fun to try them all. It gets a little touristy with higher charges for tasting in Calaveras, especially in the town of Murphys, but it's a town worth visiting anyway. As is Sutter Creek - both towns are charming and nicely restored with galleries, antique shops, restaurant galore.
