Perfect Christmas Getaway
My wife and I plus our dog stayed here over Christmas (23-27 December) and thoroughly enjoyed it. The place was very clean, spacious, well decorated and homely. The main living area is open plan with a beautiful kitchen area and functioning fireplace. There is a TV and DVD player and high speed internet via satellite. Although we didn't have a phone signal we were able to make calls through the wi-fi connect service in the house (enable wi-fi calling on your phone to use this). The main bedroom is fully en-suite and has a very comfortable king size bed. There is a downstairs bathroom and shower, plus a further restroom upstairs. Also upstairs is another double bed, a single bedroom and a quiet seating/reading area with great views. The back porch/landing is accessed from the living area and is amazing - it has many seats and the views of the woods and creek below are stunning. The house has heating so is warm if it's cold outside. The owner had gone out of her way to make the house feel nice for us, putting up Christmas decorations and a tree. The house is on a private road in a lovely area of the Blue Ridge Mountains, north of Greenville (50 min drive) and South of Brevard (20 minute drive). There are a few other houses on this road, but far enough away for you not to see them (ie, it's not too isolated and not in the middle of nowhere) and we felt completely safe throughout our stay. The house is near the top of a hill but it's not too steep for the car (we only had a Ford Fiesta). There are walks around the immediate area which were great for our old dog. We didn't see any bears but we saw a beautiful gray deer one evening, about 50 yards from the house. There is lots to do in the local area; there are many hiking trails, great views and waterfalls nearby. The town of Brevard is beautiful and has many restaurants, bars and places to shop. There are other smaller towns in the surrounding areas with nice little shops and things to see. Also accessible is the Blue Ridge Parkway (45 minute drive) and Asheville (about an hour). The owner left some great info on local places to visit and provided good communications throughout via email/text, whilst completely respecting our privacy. In summary, the house of "Bear Creek" is one of the nicest places we have stayed and we do a lot of travelling in many countries. The house itself was amazing and the area was perfectly placed. We would recommend it to everyone.
