The Good Life
Wow. That's the first thing out of your mouth when you come into this sprawling abode. High ceilings, open spaces, and lots of widows with spectacular views greet the eye. High end appliances in the kitchen make it a dream to cook in. Large bedrooms and bathrooms accommodate a sizeable group. A giant covered porch is where you'll spend most of your time, along with two upper balconies for star gazing. First impressions of this house are stunning. Our whole group loved the house, it fit everyone well, except for maybe my father in law who has trouble with stairs (there's a lot of them). The kitchen is well appointed for cooking, with enough plates/bowls/silverware to provide for an army. We spent most of our time here socializing, cooking, sipping cocktails, and putting together puzzles on the giant dining room table. There were a few cons to this place and the reason for 4 stars. Finding this place is not exactly easy. It's at the top of a long, winding, poorly marked driveway with two other homes on it. Our google maps directions took us up to the top, but there's only one fire number at the bottom of the drive, and it's not for this house, so you immediately second guess your GPS. Luckily the owner pulled into the driveway moments before us, and we figured "this must be it". Everyone else in our party had trouble finding the place, even after I sent them all a heads up. This house is currently on the market, and very new as a rental property. It is sparsely furnished, and lacking the personal character that makes a vacation rental welcoming. Upon entering the home, you walk into a completely empty lower level, not even a shower curtain in the bathroom. I've never stayed in a place that made you dispose of your own trash. We snuck ours into a gas station dumpster on our way out of town. Despite the few issues, we had a spectacular time! Mark was very friendly, albeit a little nervous as we were only the third party to rent the place, and a good communicator. We swam in beautiful Lake Michigan every day, and watched the sunset every night. It's not been a week and I miss it already. This place is a bargain at $300 a night, rent it now, before it sells!
