Beautiful space, great location, terrific owner!
My husband and I have rented VRBO houses throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, but this was the first time we decided to try a place in town. (Note to people with mobility issues: there is a steep flight of stairs up to the apt. ) This is an absolutely beautifully restored and furnished apt. The skylights throughout keep the space from being too dark - since the only windows are on the front and the back of the building. The skylight in the bathroom is particularly lovely. In fact, both the natural and artificial lighting give the place a beautiful ambiance. What is not so fabulous is the windows on the back, which are in the master bedroom and look directed out onto the bar/restaurant's patio. And by that I mean - you could reach out the window and grab the catsup off of someone's table! Therefore, there are only a few times during the day when you can open the shades. Otherwise, there might be people looking back at you! (Luckily, the tastefulness of the decor helps you not notice it too much.) Surprisingly, however, we couldn't really hear any noise. The only problem was one Saturday night when a loud band played downstairs and the sound carried up to our apt. Thankfully, the bar closes at 11 pm so it really wasn't an issue. And once, the bar people forgot to turn off the patio lights when they went home so it was like daylight in our bedroom all night. (The bar mgr. was very apologetic when we mentioned it the following day.) This place is really for family rather than two couples, even though there are two bedrooms, primarily because there is only one bathroom with a shower or bath. The other is a powder room. The second bedroom also has very cool (and high) bunk beds, but it's a little crowded between the ladders and the queen bed. And that's also where the washer/dryer is. The apt is well stocked with plates, glasses, pans, hairdryer - and robes! And the owner was very generous in providing us with welcome bottles of water and wine. There is a view of the mountains from the living room windows, two flatscreen TV's and lots of literature/maps about the area. One of the best amenities is the reserved, covered parking space across the street! Basalt is so popular - especially during market days or the Art Walk (every other Friday during the summer) that not having to search for a parking spot is a godsend. Highly recommended!
