Liked the layout of the house, needs some TLC and a thourough cleaning.
The location of the house is a little misrepresented in the photos. It is not secluded but amongst a cluster of homes, all on the east side of Hwy 1. Slight view of the ocean is offered and the walking trail crosses the highway to the beach. With all the extra fees that Sea Ranch charges on top of the nightly house rate, I expected the house to be in tip top shape and clean; it was not. Upon inspecting the house on arrival, the upstairs bathroom had long, brown hair literally stuck to the back wall of the shower and "stuff" in the bottom of the tub. This got me wondering if the linens on any of the beds had actually been washed so I opted to be safe and strip the downstairs bed I planned to sleep in and wash everything, including the comforter. So, my first hour or so was not much fun. Then the ants started to make their appearances. First in the kitchen, then by the sliding glass doors that lead outside (which also lacked a cover to close for privacy towards the other houses)the ants were on the inside... they could be seen crawling across the shag carpet. I guess a clue there might be an issue is the ant traps that are strategically placed throughout the house. They aren't working. The worst was, when checking out of the house and going through room to room making sure all belongings were packed, the ants decided to have a real party in the upstairs bathroom. In the shower and on the floor. I just was glad they waited until my departure for that one. My point is with all this is, if Sea Ranch is going to charge exorbitant amount of fees for services and "great places to experience", then that's what they should be. Guests should walk into a healthy and extremely clean environment and not second guess whether or not the bedding has been washed. I have rented other getaways in Elk and Mendocino, for much less, and without worrying about bugs or cleanliness. I only hope that this house gets the care it needs and the next guests have the relaxing experience I was looking for. (By the way, the ants I refer to are HUGE. They could carry off a small baby! Yikes! )
