Cute and spacious house for two
Kealohapau'ole was a great place for me and my husband to stay while visiting Volcanoes National Park and the Hilo area. The house is beautifully appointed, just as you see in the photos. It is only about 15 minutes from the entrance to the park, which was great for us because we went into the park on several different days; it was even easy to run back over after dinner to see the lava after dark. It is about half an hour to Hilo, so if you really want to spend your time there, you may find this a bit out of the way. Taylor and Lehua left a bowl full of fresh-from-the-farmstand fruit for our arrival, which was so good we found a place to buy some more a few days later. Taylor was always quick to respond to my emails when I had questions, and in one instance offered to come over and help with an issue (which wasn't necessary). A couple of warnings: This home is rather secluded, down an unpaved road - though there are a couple of immediate neighbors. Also, you need to use bottled water for drinking, which took some getting used to for us. Plenty was provided, both via a water cooler and with lots of individual bottles in the fridge. And, situated in the middle of a rain forest, the house can get rather damp in rainy weather. However, it dried out quickly over a couple of hours with the windows open on a sunny day. Never fear, though - these things were not problems or reasons not to stay here; this house is as lovely, spacious, clean, and airy as advertised. We were very happy that we found this house to stay in while we explored the amazing Volcanoes National Park.
