We spent our honeymoon on Maui and thought it would be romantic to stay in a secluded place, away from the hustle and bustle. Haiku fit the bill - it wasn't too far from numerous locations we visited throughout our time there but we felt like it provided us with a special experience, alone in paradise. It was a definite cost savings to be able to cook and grill many of our meals. We stopped at Costco, conveniently nearby, to stock up on some essentials. There was also a Super Kmart we frequented as well, great for souvenirs and some essentials. We enjoyed the chickens and even the rooster that woke us up at the crack of dawn each morning. The friendly cats hung around as well. My husband is allergic, so we didn't let them in the cottage. We had several days of monsoon quality rain while we were in Maui - but sunshine was typically just an hour or two drive away. One thing I noticed was the bedroom seemed a little "musty" and I'm sure it's due to the dampness. The bed was comfortable but the headboard made a lot of noise slamming against the wall. Kind of annoying. The shower was awesome, great water pressure and big enough for two to use at once. (Like I mentioned, we were on our honeymoon...) TV had limited channels, we didn't really watch too much in the evening. We never did see a garden or sheep on the property but it wasn't that big of a deal. There was a tangerine tree, though we didn't partake. The property was gorgeous, full of lush greenery that was a sight to behold. There was much to see and do in Maui - and even being there ten days or so, we promised one another we'd come back for a second honeymoon in ten years or so. Haiku was a lovely place and the cottage was ideal for us on this trip!
