Waimea was our second stop on our 10-day honeymoon in Hawaii. We stayed at Alice's place for three nights and definitely enjoyed the off-beat (yet central!) location as well as the cozy size of the cottage. Bed was very comfortable as were other furnishings of the house, and we had no problem finding the place. As others have noted, you do have to be comfortable with wildlife here, as with any place that you stay in Hawaii. There were tons of lizards, geckos, etc and a fair share of Hawaii insect life. I noticed that there were more insects here than any other place that we stayed, but that could just be the nature of the area. We did notice that hosts are actively trying to get rid of the ants, though from personal experience I say good luck in that endeavor (they're hard to get out!). Only drawback that I would mention here that I don't believe others have is that the place is RIGHT next to Highway 19. If you have the windows open (during the day or at night), it can get quite loud. As a result we were a bit hot in our east-facing room most mornings. Another place that we stayed provided a noise machine and so I might encourage the hosts here to look into that investment.
