Waialua house - Description did not adequately represent the properties condition...
I will begin with a review of the owner/manager: Maverick. He is a very nice person and whenever I brought an issue to his attention he tried to solve it immediately. The home was in a very poor condition. When we arrived my wife spent an hour sweeping floors and cleaning table tops and counters. I spent that time washing dishes and sinks, the stainless steel sink in the kitchen is heavily stained. The house had three tower fans which did not adequately cool the house or the rooms. Hawaii in the summer is hot and humid, so ceiling fans would be a better fit for cooling and comfort. Many of the jalousie window glass were missing and the screens torn which led to issues with safety. The laundry area doubles as a construction workshop which makes for limited space when having to dry clothes on the clothesline (the description states that a washing machine is available but no dryer). The rear of the house is a construction zone and the bedroom side of the house has many construction supplies. The front deck is just many 2"x6" boards that are not secured or "floating." The driveway onto the property is broken and uneven, when it rains water pools in the driveway so it is difficult to stay dry when getting in and out of the car to open or close the gate. Just outside of the laundry area a board barely covers an open sewer drain that has a drain snake sitting inside of the opening. This house was described as a place a family could stay at comfortably. I would have to disagree. I would not let my kids play outside because of the many and various hazards (hand tools, power tools, nails, screws, sinks, pipes, etc) which were out in the open. This would be better for a group of friends who are simply going to crash at this home. The bedrooms are of a good size and the recent addition of full size beds to replace the twin beds worked well for our stay. A few wild chickens roam the backyard (as does a Guinea Pig) and one chicken leaves 2 to 3 eggs a day where the laundry soap is located. The house is quiet but stays hot if the trade winds are low or non existent. Also, though the quoted price "seems" low it is for two guests. Over two guests and each new head is $20 per night extra. This adds up very fast. My overall opinion is one of disappointment and I would not recommend this rental to my friends.
