Ketch Court II - Harbour Town Hilton Head Island
We might have given the experience a 2-star rating but on the day of departure the elevator to the 3rd floor apartment where we were staying was Out of Order and we had a member of our group who was wheel-chair bound. It took the maintenance staff over 90 minutes to arrive to reset the equipment. The reason we would have given the property a 2-star rating (and not slightly higher) was that it was mis-advertised as a handicap-accessible property but was not. We corresponded several times with the owner about this - who gave us reason to believe the apartment would be comfortable for use by someone who was mostly wheelchair-bound. Regrettably, on arrival there was very little about the property that could be considered handicap-accessible. 1st - There was no handicap parking space in the parking lot and there were 3 steps leading to the entrance. The owner had mentioned this beforehand but suggested there was another entrance that had no stairs. (This turned out to be incorrect. The separate entrance had 2 stairs.) 2nd - The bathroom had no handrails and the dining/living room was cluttered with large bulky furniture leaving little space for a wheel chair to navigate. Even the lift was barely wide enough to get a wheel chair inside. 3rd - The apartment itself was spacious but hadn't been updated for quite some time. There were gaudy plastic plants throughout and yellow painted walls - perhaps popular in the 1970s but not to current tastes. There was little natural light on the main level and the amount of electric lighting was hardly sufficient for reading a book or kindle. Two of the lamps had burned out bulbs that weren't replaced during our 5-night stay. 4th - The kitchen was in an even darker part of the apartment. It had basic pots and pans, cutlery and plates, glasses and mugs. But there were few appliances other than a toaster. And, though, in a separate room near the elevator there were laundry machines, the apartment had no laundry soap or liquid. On arrival we also found only 2 trash bags in the pantry. An additional complaint would be the general state of cleanliness when we arrived. The property is maintained by a third-party (one gets the impression the owner doesn't visit it that often). The floors weren't well swept or cleaned and there were forks in the drawer that had food debris stuck to them. But, in fairness, on the day we left a cleaning person did come to the apartment with fresh towels and a cleaning bucket.
