Amazing place, perfect location!
This property is absolutely beautiful, the house is huge with room for everyone, and it provides a perfect starting point for mountain adventures. The house is clean and fully stocked with anything you could need. It can easily lodge a large group, yet has plenty of cozy spaces. Features about the house we really liked were the large glass windows through the back that face the forest that make you feel as if you are actually living in a treehouse in the middle of the woods and the very cozy downstairs with a wood burning stove that heats very effectively. The property is ideal in terms of location: first of all it backs up directly onto the National Forest so there are incredible hikes literally right out the backyard that lead to the Arnold Rim Trail (and other trails) with stunning Sierra views. We did four different hikes walking right out the back door that go down in our list of all-time favorites (Cougar Rock at evening is incredible.) Despite this direct wilderness access, there is a grocery store and a great cafe just a short walk away in Arnold. The neighborhood is very fun; particularly in summer the nearby mountain lake is a blast for both the grown-ups and the kids. There are easy paddling opportunities for quiet enjoyment of the natural beauty as well as a beach, docks, games and a snack bar that bring lots of fun-loving kids and families out in the afternoon. Finally, the area is a perfect departure point for mountain adventures, with Lake Alpine, Bear Valley, and Big Trees State Park a short drive up Highway 4, and the rustic-chic town of Murphys just a short drive down the mountain. The owners are very friendly and responsive. I can't recommend this place highly enough, it is one of our favorite places that we've ever stayed. I look forward to the stunning display of stars and the intoxicating smell of the pines when we return, which we most certainly will!
