An amazing experience
Looks amazing ? It is! My family of five (3 children ages 12-14 and 16) stayed at 'the big blue house' in Kalapana Gardens for five days. I was worried about what my family would think; a lava field, living off the grid, sharing the kitchen and a bathroom with a stranger (the caretaker). We like our creature comforts as much as the next guy. Turns out, we lacked for nothing and quite enjoyed our 'run ins' with Enzo. He is very discreet and did not hesitate in providing us with Island Information when asked. Thanks Enzo!:) My two sons shared a big bed in one of the bedrooms while my daughter was quite happy to take the other bedroom to herself on the main level. As for my husband and I, we had the upstairs suite to ourselves, complete with bath, shower, a balcony and closet space. We saved our clothes washing for the next portion of our trip: a condo on the other side of the island. We did the early morning walk to the lava viewing as opposed to the night walk which turned out to be the better option since we were able to park closer in on the road as there is no supervision in the morning. It cut off quite a bit of walking time. Make sure to be there on a Wednesday so as not to miss the weekly Uncle Robert's market (local party). If you wish to experience the authentic side of the Island, this is were you need to go. I had a Mai Tai, danced to a ukulele band, bought a few souvenirs and savored a few local dishes. Don't miss a visit to the black sand beach behind the market, look up Sirius coffee in town for a good latte and such. We had such a memorable time. It's quite amazing to have built such luxury on a lava field. We feel privileged to have experienced a stay at your house Adrian. Thank you and Mahalo from us all. ps: I would consider changing the blue curtains throughout. They do nothing, especially on pictures and perhaps adding a window covering in the living room window to cut out the sun and afternoon heat. Ottawa, Ontario.
