Quirky house but wonderful area
This is a nice home in a wonderful location. Unfortunately we had some serious issues with it. First of all, the basement family room was unusable do to very heavy mold smell. We could not use the dining room area at all because the lighting was not working, and the washing machine was broken. The rental agent was helpful but explained that things don't get fixed all that quickly in this area. So, we had to make three trips to the coin operated laundry in the town (which he compensated us for). The house is comfortable and well equipped. The big bright open spaces on the first floor were very nice. Perhaps the biggest problem with the house is that there is only one bathroom serving all the bedrooms upstairs. The other full bath was useless since it was located by the back door on the first floor. Strange. The stairs to the second floor bedrooms are quite steep. Toddlers and elderly would find them to be a problem. This home is in a very picturesque area. It is close to the Green Mountain Horse Assn. but not really all that convenient to Woodstock itself. Best guess is that it is about a 20-25 minute drive. GPS will get you close to the house, but is about 1/4 mile off. Better signage would be appreciated. The driveway is dirt and somewhat steep. I suspect that four wheel drive would be required in winter. The booking process is a bit cumbersome. Because the house is for sale, rentals are handled by a real estate agent. They do not use the Homeaway payment system or online rental agreement. You must mail a paper check and sign a rental agreement. Getting our deposit back proved to be a protracted process. Apparently their online banking system did not work....finally they mailed out a check. I counted the back and forth emails and was surprised to see more than 20 to sort out the rental, problems with the property, and the deposit.
