Could not have asked for a better home or host!
Mike and Victoria’s home, elegantly perched in the Vermont Mountains, looked as if it were straight out of a “Home” magazine- one that someone would reference to learn how to redesign a house that perfectly fuses functionality with beauty. If the first drive into the garage were to be of any indication, the fully stocked piles of firewood stood out as one detail of the care that Mike and Victoria had put into making us guests feel welcome and at home. Walking in from our long drive from New York, we were greeted by homemade brownies and a welcome card- letting us know that they were pleased to share their home and all of its amenities with us. This welcome card included detailed instructions of how we could figure out the functionalities of the “large-enough-for-all-of-us” hot tub and the “perfect-after-a-cold-day” sauna. Although both looked tempting that first night, we were all exhausted and ready to unpack and settle in. There was more than enough room in the kitchen for us to unload our boxes of fresh food (and the requisite marshmallows for our eventual fireside treat) and with the first (of many) fires warming us from the somehow spacious yet cozy living room, we sat down for our first dinner under the candelabra (with magical candles that evaporated rather than melt!) Sometimes, people put so much effort into the aesthetics of houses, that they forget the agreeability factor, and what makes that house a home. This was not the case with Mike and Victoria. The beautiful bedrooms were as comfortable as they were visually appealing. The multiple beds, all with inviting linen, mattresses, and fluffed pillows, were the perfect way to rest up for the next day of hitting the slopes. Hit the slopes we did, and when we came back weary and weathered, the hot tub and sauna were finally put to their intended use. After spending an hour or so de-thawing in the hot water, we ate warm soup and spent the next bit of time bringing out our competitive spirits with rounds of pool, ping-pong, and air-hockey in the downstairs game-room. These routines continued throughout the weekend; the perfect blend of new activities coupled with the simple pleasure of being in a home (unlike a stale or severe hotel experience) made this Vermont experience at Mike and Victoria’s absolutely irreplaceable. Thank you so much for sharing your space with us. We will definitely be back, and we will undoubtedly encourage our friends and family to do the same!
