It's a quiet retreat to stay at or return to after going out on an adventure
Berta and Billy were excellent hosts; always available if there was an issue or we had questions since their home is adjacent to the cottage. We were given very detailed directions on how to get to the cottage driving (a vehicle is necessary) 12 minutes from the airport, very late at night, and they waited up to ensure we got in. We were welcomed to a breakfast of muffins, coffee, cream, sugar, and fresh fruit; and for later on bottled water and snacks to get started after a long day of traveling. Berta was especially helpful with sharing the local events happening during our stay such as the Farmers Markets, the Christmas Light Show in Holualoa, and the Christmas parade in Kona, to mention a few of the many activities available to us during the Christmas season. We learned a lot about the island with suggestions about where to go and what to see that only a local would know. The newly built and landscaped cottage on a hill is a quiet, very organized and tidy, secluded studio, tastefully decorated and self-contained. They made sure their guests have everything for a comfortable stay including a cooler with ice packs, beach chairs, snorkel masks, and boogie boards. The lanai was a beautiful place to barbecue, eat our meals, relax, and watch the beautiful sunsets. A great place to stay and relax or to come back to after an adventure around the island being fairly central to places such as Waimea and further north to see the extreme change in the landscape from tropical to desert, or a jaunt to Mauna Kea to view the sunset and stars at night, and even zip across to Hilo and visit the Botanical Gardens and Volcano National Park. Driving into Kona for shopping, restaurants (Mi's, Kamana, Daylight Mind Coffee Company) is about 10 minutes. Great beaches for snorkelling, body surfing and boogie boarding are within 15-30 minutes. We were very appreciative to be able to stay at the property longer taking into consideration our very late departure flight. This accommodation and our hosts exceeded our expectations. We've sent photos and reviews about this gem, the best place on the Big Island to stay, to all our friends and relatives. Book now while it's still available. Walks close to a beach or around the local garden, and a free swimming pool and gym are located at the Old Airport. Our favourite earlier beach walk was Honokohau Beach where we always saw green sea turtles resting or swimming nearby.
