Wonderful, Fantastic Retreat!
The guest house is as described, and even better. It is well sized, beyond cozy cottage feel, with enough space for a family of adults to enjoy a wonderful holiday together, cook together, play board games, sleep without any feeling of space limitations. We spent Christmas here and are thrilled that it was the perfect home for the holidays for our family! The gardens are lovely to walk, explore, and lounge any time of year- plenty of entertainment with the ducks, metal sculptures, bells, art pieces, and thoughtful poetry and philosophies among the gardens. The interior certainly is designed with the eye of a professional to maximize visual space, open floor plan and flow, and includes a perfect kitchen for those who love to cook- a true delight including the 5-burner varied-size-rings stove, Keurig coffee maker. The ambiance is rustic in an up-scale way, wall treatments are soothing, restful with an artist's touch in the details. I love the large carved deep rich blue bird perched on the large bell wood mount that can be seen with every glance out the living room window. It draws the blue into the house and complements the interior blue/grey colors. We loved the ambiance created by the iron stove in the living room; it heated the entire house. All was very clean, tidy, great amenities including speedy wifi. Ilsa and Joe were most accommodating to our family needs, available and responsive to communications, and quick to action after the Christmas Eve snow storm to clear the walkways and driveway of snow. We enjoyed the last of the swiss chard growth from their covered green house. The guest house is very private. We were able to play frisbee and build a snowman at midnight in the gently falling snow without concern for disturbing any of the very distant neighbors (we hope!). This guest house is so convenient to the entire region of wonderful New England-type towns- Ridgefield, Norwalk, Wilton, etc, and close to major town Danbury and the fun Stew Leonards, and just 1 mile from the NY border. It's a short jog around the bend in the road to Ridgefield HS, yet provides a remote, far-away-in-the-country feel on the expansive property with rustic gardens, farm and wildlife marsh. Loved everything about it and we would love to return during the warm season to experience the full wildlife and growth on the property. Many thanks for a most wonderful holiday experience in the Garden of Ideas Guest House
