Comfortable but poor customer relations
We had a nice stay at this very clean and comfortable beach house. Because of the hardwood floors one has to remove shoes inside, and be very careful not to bring sand in. We were very careful of the floors, and all the quite nice furnishings, even with a two year old to control! We had to purchase all our own cleaning supplies including dish soap and scrubbers, all of which we left for the next guests. The pots and pans are a disaster, rounded bottoms on a ceramic cooktop and all the ancient teflon has worn off. I actually borrowed pots and pans from one of my MB friends to use instead. We had a horrible occurrence after our stay; I received an e mail from the property manager that she had cashed our damage deposit, rather than refund it, due to illegally having a pet. We had no pet whatsoever, which I wrote back; her answer was to send me an e mail from subsequent renters claiming there was pet hair all over the couch and cushions. I asked her what the cleaning people had reported. Well, she hadn't checked yet, though when she did she reported they said there was no sign of pet hair and we had passed all of their checklist. I guess she doesn't quite trust her cleaning people because she still stated she had to see for herself and take pictures. Well, a day or two later she called me to report there was no sign of pet hair; there was lint (who left it - us or the people after us????) She agreed to send me a check to cover our damage deposit, and blamed the renters after us for the "misunderstanding". I rent 2 or 3 homes per year through vrbo and have never had a problem getting a deposit back; we are almost always praised for how clean we leave a place and are requested to come back. We have become friends with some of the rental owners. I can't believe the check held in trust was cashed (illegally my brother who works for the city of Cambria claims), and we had to wait two weeks to receive our refund, sans apology.
