Serendipitous mistake leads to lovely weekend, home away from home and new friends!
We were coming up to visit my son who had just started at UNCA. It was family weekend. When I registered, I originally made reservations for the Marriott Courtyard in Asheville. However, discovered a major "whoops" -- I only reserved the room for 1 night, just 1 week before the event. Scoured the internets to find alternative hotels and my choices were the Grove Park Inn for 900 bucks a night or Motel 6 with terrible reviews. So I decided to go on VRBO and see what was available. There were MANY great properties available. However, I was drawn to this one due to its relative proximity to Asheville, the price, and the fact that the security deposit was not going to be 350 bucks! From the very first contact, Val was a delight! She was so accommodating and really went out of her way to make sure our upcoming trip would be successful and peaceful. She offered to make up the pullout bed ahead of time since she knew we would be arriving late. She was so friendly and personable that I felt like I was going to be visiting a friends house and not just a random vacation rental. When we arrived, both my son and I were delighted by the homemade cookies waiting for us! Val had explained everything extremely well so we knew exactly where to go and what to do when we got there. They were even kind enough to make themselves available (at 11:00 pm) if we needed anything. The house is impeccably maintained and perfectly clean! Everything was provided from towels and extra sheets to a can of soup in the pantry! It was simply beautiful there plus an easy drive (once you know the way) to Asheville. My "suggestions" when going to The Tiny Home: 1. BE SURE to contact Val AHEAD OF TIME to let her know WHERE you will be coming from so she can provide suggestions to plug into your GPS. Talk about having blind faith in Google Maps: my talking lady took me SO far off the beaten path that the road went from gravel onto a single lane "bridge" with roads that make Lombard St in San Francisco look like a straight shot. I even saw a bear in the middle of the road as I driving -- that was EXTREMELY cool (particularly since I was safely ensconced in my car!). The next day, Val was able to give me an intermediate landmark to plug into my GPS which was much quicker and safer. 2. If you arrive at night -- look UP!!! The stars are simply amazing. Thanks to Val, Carl, Sid for a wonderful weekend!!!
