An authentic lake house vacation!
My husband & I spent 5 nights at this Lake Dunmore cabin two weeks ago. It is a great place to relax and renew. The house is not lakeside but you can view the lake from the screen porch and there is a private dock just a short walk across the road. A rowboat and canoe are available for use, but we were content to sit quietly and chill. The house was a comfortable home for the 2 of us. We loved the screen porch, the kitchen is one of the best equipped we have ever used in a rental situation, and has a user friendly gas grill with all needed implements. There was a good selection of reading material should you forget your book and fast wifi; everything you need for summer lake living. Lake Dunmore is a family friendly 50's era lake community of the type that is hard to find these days. The houses are of the old fashioned pine paneled kind that we experienced growing up, so we felt right at home. The lake is quiet with few loud noisy boats; the cabin is in the no-wake zone toward the North end. There is a boys' camp on the far shore and a girls' camp on the near shore so you frequently hear happy young people enjoying themselves. We enjoyed the local road and neighborhood for morning walks. The owners provide great information on activities. We recommend downtown Middlebury & the Farmers' Market, the Middlebury Mountaineer for outside activities & active wear, the local food co-op for top-notch groceries, Paddler's Pub @ the marina nearby on the lake (they offer take out, too), Shed Brewery for local beer with food, and hiking Silver Lake. Traveling for a month, we happily discovered a nearby laundromat @ Kamper's Village. We highly recommend spending many hours on the screen porch. All in all, a restful stop on our trip!
