Truly our home away from home!
This was our very first experience renting a home rather than doing the hotel route. We were a little nervous about what we would find when we got there. Our hosts were the BEST! Their cottage was perfect for our family of 4. We had all the comforts of home....even home baked cookies waiting for our arrival and a supply of coffee, coffee filters, and creamer. The cottage was clean, all new kitchen appliances, kitchen was stocked with all the necessities except food, beds were comfortable and clean linens, fast WIFI access, cable tv, washer and dryer. The cottage is nestled in a quiet wooded area. Every morning we were greeted by black tail deer and their fawns out the front door. We stayed 4 nights and on our departing morning we saw turkeys crossing the drive way. The owners were on the property and available to us for anything we needed. They made us feel like family....we even enjoyed a long conversation over a relaxing glass of wine in their home. They provided a wealth of information about the local area. Getting to and from Eureka was a breeze and we loved the central location to be able to tour the mighty Redwoods north and south of us. If you are traveling in the north end of the "Avenue of the Giants", you MUST stop for a blackberry popsicle at a road side stand in Pepperwood, CA. (Thank you Glenn & Katherine for telling us about this!!) It was one of the most delicious things we have ever eaten and will always remember from our adventure! We spent time in historic old town Eureka on July 4th. The fireworks over the water were amazing and we will never forget. If you like charter boat fishing, we went on a day trip with Fishy Business. The captain and his first mate were awesome....even while 3 of the 4 of us were getting motion sick! They did all they could do to keep us fishing and feeling better. If you need your bounty of crab steamed for you, Mr. Fish will take care of you for a fair price. If you need dry ice to get your fish home, Eureka Oxygen Co is THE place to go. Every single person we encountered were very friendly and helpful everywhere we went. The temperature in Eureka did surprise us....it hovered around 65 during the day in July and 55 at night. Bring your warm clothes! If we ever have a need to be back in Eureka, we would GLADLY stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone considering this place!
