A Treat To Say the Least!
When the SC Governor announced an evacuation for all residents within 100 miles of the coast in advance of Matthew, the category 4 hurricane. We immediately began looking for a place to hold out til the "coast was clear". A little hurricane humor. Ha. With 3 little ones(ages 1, 6 & 8)plus 2 dogs, we couldn't take any chances. Most hotels were already booked by the time we started searching. Not being wealthy people with a big savings account to depend on, we needed REASONABLE. I came to VRBO site, typed in the area of NC we felt was well out of the storm's range & viola! What a relief. We had many things on our mind and vacationing wasn't one of them! We packed ourselves, 3 kids and 2 German Shepards into our largest vehicle & came on up to Green Mountain. So beautiful & quiet! Our kids had the best time exploring! We took nature hikes each day. The first day, both of our older kids found fallen branches which became their "hiking sticks" & are in a corner of each kid's room as I type this review. Our dogs, who've never been off leash any other place than our own back yard, never left the side of our children. We really found out what those dogs are made of which is complete loyalty and protection especially for the little ones. Remarkable. Finally, it was time to leave and we packed the car, got everyone buckled in & click click click. Dead battery. OH NO. What were we going to do! No one comes down the private road the house is on, who'd we call anyway? As we're discussing what in the world to do, we heard a car! First time in 5 days! It was the couple coming to prepare the house for the next guests. They smiled as they saw this group with the worried looks. My husband asked if they had jumper cables & the man said "of course!" "YAY!", we all cheered.(We've since joined AAA)The cables worked perfectly and we were on our way. Thank you, VRBO. Our visit couldn't have been better. We'll definitely be back some day!
