Beautiful property with lovely and helpful hosts
I, my wife, and our young son enjoyed a great three-night stay during the winter of 2016. The hosts (Peter and Val) were extremely friendly and the cabin was very well appointed (kitchen supplies, extra bedding, etc.) and actually better/nicer than what we had envisioned based on the pictures and description. We stayed for a long-weekend ski trip and were able to make it back-and-forth to the Wolf Ridge ski resort in about 20 minutes, which was great, and are within a reasonable drive to area restaurants and other amenities in Mars Hill and even Asheville if you wanted to drive a little further. If you're planning on staying here during the winter, please be note two things. First, the cabin does not have central heating and instead uses a gas-log fireplace and several space heaters. We found that this feature added to its rustic charm, but it does require a little extra work to start and stop the fireplace using the knobs underneath it and remembering to turn off the space heaters when you leave. Second, the cabin has a long and deceptively steep driveway, so if there's any threat of snow and/or if you don't have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, I would highly recommend parking in the barn at the bottom of the hill and walking the 100 or so yards up to the cabin. Again, a little extra work for those without mobility issues, but we viewed this as a small price to pay for an otherwise great experience. Lastly, I'd like to reiterate how amazing Peter and Val are as hosts -- they really went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed for a great stay.
