Nice House But Wont Rent Again
We have rented several homes on Lake Hartwell, however, this was a last minute "booking" as all of the homes we have previously rented, were unavailable for the weekend. The pictures adequately describe the home - it is spacious, well decorated and has a great dock. Upon our arrival, we had issues with the grill, i.e., the gas tank was empty. Since we had planned to grill all weekend, we spent the majority of our first day driving around Anderson to find a gas station, hardware store, camp sight etc. that would fill the gas tank because the valve on the tank was outdated (expired in 1997). After driving around all afternoon, contemplating if we should just purchase a small grill, the manager at the hardware store let us borrow the adapter but would not fill it for safety concerns. After driving to almost every gas station in Anderson, we finally found a station that would fill it. I emailed the owner several times concerning it, and he failed to respond until later in the evening. (note: When the gas in the tank runs out, someone will have a very difficult time getting it refilled unless it is replaced.) We also tried to use the dishwasher, but there was standing water in the pan and we were nervous about using it. I emailed the owner, however, he never responded. We washed dishes by hand for the duration of the weekend. These issues were aggravating but not the reason why I gave the poor to average rating. We have rented lake homes and beach homes for the last 15+ years. Never once, have I been denied a refund of my deposit. During this trip, not only was the refund of my deposit slow, the homeowners alleged that we kept sheets and a pillow and therefore did not refund my total deposit. Since there are so many bedrooms, so many linens and so many pillows, I suggest you count and take pictures of every item so you don't get charged for it. If we are going to spend $1500 for a weekend at the lake, we are not the type of people who are going to remove sheets and a pillow from someone's home. I insisted to the owner that the sheets were probably misplaced or simply not used and put back in one of the linen closets, however, they maintained the linens and pillow were not found by their housekeeper. I have no use for sheets and/or a pillow from a rental home that others have used! I would encourage anyone that rents this home to take pictures and do a thorough inventory upon their arrival and before they leave. Sadly, we will not rent again.
Don't miss this finishing season at this large , beautiful lake house !
