Owner cancelled 2 days before our arrival
We confirmed our booking 2 months in advance. Owner called 2 days before arrival to cancel due to double booking. Apparently he'd emailed me through HomeAway 2 weeks prior, but that message got lost in my junk email folder. It was so late by the time he decided to pick up the phone and call (only prompted by my request for check-in details) that we were not able to find another place to stay. Instead we had to book a hotel at a much higher, last minute rate. I had to call the owner again to get him to initiate a refund. He didn't understand how payment works. He has since issued a partial refund, but I'm still waiting to be refunded in full. I've also called Home Away three times. Don't think they take care of this kind of thing for you; every time they've put it back on me to deal with the owner directly. Obviously can't speak to the property itself but this experience with the owners does not bode well for prospective travelers.
