Nice little house in a sleepy coastal town
The little house in Rock Hall fit our larger-than-average family nicely. It is beautifully decorated and is in good condition inside and out. We found it clean and tidy when we arrived. We concluded that it’s an older house that has been renovated as very few light switches are in logical locations. The kitchen is well-appointed and includes a dishwasher. We missed having plastic plates and cups for the small kids - so we used glass, of which there are many sets - and amazingly the kids did not break anything during our stay. The fridge is large and new. There is a built-in microwave and full-size stove with oven. The dining area was amply large and suitable. The living room is a bit small but well-appointed with chairs and a couch and cable TV. The Wifi was super fast and reliable - we connected phones, tablets, and laptops with no problem. The bedrooms were all sufficiently large with a private bath off the master bedroom. The bathrooms are well-appointed with new fixtures but the counter is plywood which seems out of context. There is a double-stack washer-dryer combo which came in handy - especially since you are asked to wash the sheet and towels before you leave. Personally, I would prefer to pay $60 extra and leave it for a cleaning person to take care of. There is a small porch on the side of the house with some beach chairs. We didn’t use the porch much as it was super hot the week we were there. Fortunately, the house has excellent central air and has no problem cooling the house even when it’s 100 degrees outside. The neighborhood is a bit on the dumpy side. There is a screen printer across the street who had piles of rubbish in front of his shop - eye-sore. On the street there are a number of vacant and abandoned houses. While the neighborhood is somewhat ghetto, the downtown area - which is a short walk away - is quaint. At no time did we feel unsafe...but we did lock the doors at night. I should mention that all the neighbors were quiet. Based on the listing, we were looking forward to enjoying the free community pool in Rock Hall. Unfortunately, it only has limited weekend hours. Also, it’s very small. Fortunately, we were able to find the Kent County Community Pool in Worton which is 25 minutes away. That was a big hit with the kids but costs $5/head. We also went to both museums in town - one at the municipal building and the Watermans Museum on the main road out to the bay - both take no more than 30-45 minutes for a visit.
