Loved exploring the desert from Sweetheart Ridge!
Ed and Susan offer a simple, cozy home on 2.5 acres with a beautiful desert view and easy access to Joshua Tree National Park. The home was immaculate. Everything was so clean and looked brand new. It offered all the necessary supplies for cooking, grilling and relaxing. There's an awesome fire pit with amazing, completely unobstructed views of the night sky. We toasted smores, told ghost stories around the campfire and star gazed for hours. Nature abounds at Sweetheart Ridge! We saw quail, rabbits, hawks, lizards, a fox and ground squirrels. We saw coyote and cat tracks, but weren't "lucky" enough to see them in person. Ed and Susan are super nice and live only 10 minutes away. They quickly responded to any questions I texted and were readily available when needed, but were very respectful of their guests' privacy. Ed and Susan really know the history of the area, and had plenty of recommendations on places to hike and explore. They also offered a variety of books and pamphlets to help plan activities during our stay. Susan grows mulberries on the property and offers preserves and jams, which were absolutely delicious! The second morning we were there Ed brought us a bag of fresh-picked berries and apricots, which they grow at their home. The apricots were, without a doubt, the best we’ve ever had. We had a blast playing horseshoes and going on critter hunts. It was like we were camping, but could then go in and take a hot shower and lie down in a comfy bed at the end of a long, fun day. My kids (ages 6 and 3) simply loved it! There is no wifi available, which actually helped us remain unplugged and enjoy nature, which is exactly why we came in the first place. The property is a bit remote, so be prepared to travel down a dirt road. Cell reception for some carriers is spotty, but we had great signal on Verizon. Recommend maybe wifi for those who simply can’t live without and perhaps in the future they would consider adding a hot tub, which would make it a perfect couples retreat! It’s an easy 15 minute drive to get to the west gate of Joshua tree.
