A Perfect Spot!
This was for us, a family of three, a lovely home away from home. It is sequestered among the redwoods, and yet not so isolated that one feels too cut off from civilization and the "fun stuff." We Las Vegans gratefully appreciated this total departure from the heat that our fair city is currently experiencing! First the house: Beautifully decorated with lovely pieces of art in various nooks and crannies, it is furnished so tastefully and very much in keeping with its rustic surroundings. The ambiance is exactly the opposite of where we live, which is what a vacation ought to be! There was an abundance of friendly cats belonging to various neighbors who would greet us when we had our morning hike, which actually made us feel very much at home! The house is essentially a loft with a bed and a winding staircase that connects to downstairs, which has a regular bedroom with the bathroom next door. I would love to have slept up in the loft, which seemed a whole lot more romantic and adventurous, but decided to let our teen sleep there, thinking that I wasn't in the mood to climb those stairs in the dark if I had to make multiple trips to the bathroom. Just a friendly tip: If you have any "issues" maybe let the athletic types or the young ones use the loft. They should love it.....Ours did!! All of the appliances worked, and our host/owner, Daniel, couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating, both when we first met at the house and during all of the correspondences preceeding our visit. Second the location: Guerneville is a terrific little city. It is casual and laid back, and the downtown area, small though it is, has some interesting and funky little shops and some good restaurants. There is a Safeway, which proved to be a great place to shop for groceries and Deli food. It's all just a couple of miles down the road, so quite easy to get to. We visited the Bay Area to see the the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, so Guerneville suited us perfectly, being less than thirty minutes away from that lovely city. It's approximately the same distance from Santa Rosa, making it truly accessible to some larger cities....always an added attraction if you are having an extended stay. All in all, it's a ten out of ten, and this comes from someone who has rented many, many times on vrbo/homeaway!
