First the good things. The condo is just at the edge of town and perfect walking distance to Jack's Diving Locker (and many restaurants, for those of you less interested in diving). The bed is comfortable and the unit is quiet and extremely clean. The kitchen is very well stocked with utensils, pots and pans and small appliances (blender, microwave, coffee pot, coffee grinder). There are beach towels and lawn chairs, but no cooler. There is a nice little beach just a few minutes down the road (Honl's Beach). Now the not so good things. There is no balcony - just a patio door that slides open to a railing. Even though the condo is on the third floor, there were ants and cockroaches. I know bugs are inevitable in this climate, but the house we rented in the middle of the forest on the Hilo side was completely free of insects. I left a note for management that they needed to fumigate as I was tired of squashing a roach every time I opened a kitchen drawer. The condo is also getting worn – stained carpet, broken kitchen counter, broken blinds. The last was a problem as it is difficult to keep the unit cool if you can’t keep out the sun. Lastly, this really isn’t a 1 bedroom unit. There are folding doors to close off the bedroom portion, but you cut the room off from the air conditioner and windows, so you really have a small studio unit.
