Awe. Some. Ness.
Gary and I spent 3 weeks in Peter and Val's rustic cabin in the mountains in Mars Hill. The vistas from the cabin were mesmerizing; it is an unobstructed view of mountain ranges, trees, the red barn and pond - a glorious natural setting. We never tired of sitting on the front porch, sharing the day's events reading, eating or watching the mountains, which were especially dramatic in the evenings with the sun setting behind us (cabin faces slightly south and east). Each day we took trips to neighboring quaint towns and Asheville, the Biltmore, etc. it's an excellent home base, far enough (about 15 minutes to groceries, 30 minutes to Asheville) to feel unencumbered by the noise of the world. Our hosts were excellent, available but almost invisible. They are lovely and personable people with a keen sense of the amount of solace we wanted. However, if you have the opportunity to spend any time at all with either Peter or Val, you will soon learn they are fascinating. Along with the butterflies, dragonflies, many different types of birds and other creatures, we realize that there are ants in such a setting and therefore kept our food in the fridge. It is not a problem when you take preventive measures. Watching the full moon rise over the mountains was a once in a lifetime experience, it was HUGE!! And watching the lightening in the distant clouds with lightning bugs twinkling in the forest around us was magical.
